About our skin fades

A skin fade takes the sides and back down to bare skin at the bottom and blends upward into the length on top. Done properly there is no visible line, just a smooth gradient that looks sharp from every angle. It is the most requested cut in the barber chair at Annan.

Before the clippers come out we look at your head shape, how your hair grows at the crown and neckline, and how much length you want to keep on top. That decides whether a low, mid or high fade will suit you best.

What is included

  • A quick consultation on fade height and length on top
  • Clipper and foil work blended down to the skin
  • Scissor or clipper work through the top
  • A clean line up around the edges
  • Styled with product so you know how to wear it

Who it suits

Skin fades suit almost any hair type, from straight and fine to thick, coarse or curly hair. If you would rather not go all the way to the skin, a zero or half fade gives a similar shape with a little more coverage and costs $42.95.

01Step by step

What happens in the chair.

  1. Pick the height

Low, mid or high. We show you where each would start on your head and how it changes the overall shape.

  2. Set the guide line

Clippers set the outline and the shortest point. This is where the fade height is locked in.

  3. Blend to the skin

Foil shavers take the bottom to bare skin, then we work up through the guards so there is no visible step.

  4. Detail and finish

Line up around the ears, temples and neck, cut the top, then style it the way you will wear it.

03Good to know

What affects your skin fade.

The things your barber looks at before starting, and why they change the result or the price.

Fade height

A high fade shows more skin and needs refreshing sooner. A low fade is subtler and grows out more gently.

Hair type

Dark, thick hair shows the gradient clearly. Fine or light hair can use a slightly longer blend so it does not look patchy.

Head shape and crown

Cowlicks and a flat or pronounced crown change where we start the fade so it sits evenly.

Call the studio
How much is a skin fade in Booval?

A skin fade is $47.95 and a zero or half fade is $42.95 at Annan Barber and Hairdresser, Booval Fair.

What is the difference between a skin fade and a normal fade?

A skin fade goes right down to bare skin at the bottom. A zero or half fade stops at a very short clipper guard, so a little hair is left at the shortest point.

How long does a skin fade last?

Most skin fades look their sharpest for about two weeks. Many regulars book every two to three weeks to keep the blend tight.

Can I walk in for a skin fade?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome when a chair is free. Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturdays are busy, so call ahead on 0450 871 619 if you want a set time.

Does a skin fade hurt?

No. Foil shavers glide over the skin. If you have sensitive skin, tell your barber and we will go gently.

Low, mid or high skin fade: which should I get?

Low suits most face shapes and workplaces. Mid is the most popular balance. High is bold and best if you want maximum contrast.
